• My Blog from 2004-2008
One of my favorite musicians, a great inspiration to me has died. I’ll go into more detail later, but to those who loved her and her music, today is a very sad day. All my best wishes to her husband Alain and her son Robin.
Apparently the producers of T4 are trying to reboot the series after the abysmal Terminator 3: Rise of the Lesbian She-Robots, which happened to suck so badly I had to walk out of the theatre. No lie. Well it looks like they are shelling out big bucks for A-list talent so possibly they have something up their sleeve beside a further decent into mediocrity. Expect a big presence at ComicCon this year. Did I say ComicCon? Why not check out the ComicCon FriendFeed room.
Blogging vs. FriendFeed
We’re only halfway through 2008, and already I’ve changed up my online work/info flow a bunch of times. Happens really quickly. I’m an early adopter, and I’m always down to scrap and reshape my flow to fit my needs. What’s unique right now, is that I find I’m blogging less since FriendFeed. Since moving to Tumblr for blogging, I’ve been very happy with it’s ease of use and wide variety of posting methods. Also the Tumblr dashboard for sharing posts between tumblr users was an unforeseen win. Tumblr is a great service and I hope the creators make a gazillion dollars.
Lately though, I find myself drawn to FriendFeed because I get to realize something that blogging doesn’t satisfy - open dialogue. Blogging is largely a one-way broadcast, with the comments thread giving visitors the ability to create a tail of comments, but nothing that effectively works as a discussion. The blogosphere acts like a vast array of broadcasting towers, seemingly isolated, somehow.
What feels so fresh and fun about FriendFeed is the ease and speed of starting and joining converstaions. I really enjoy this. A giant multi-threaded uber convo. The system isn’t flawless yet; for instance there’s no way of “starring” or “flagging” conversations to continue them, but at the rate that the FF staff makes improvements, I am confident that the service will grow and change to accomodate.
I’m not making any sweeping changes here, just looking at my habits lately and they seem to be oribiting the starting and continuing of conversations there as opposed to broadcasting here. If you want to join up and add me at FF feel free…
Don’t know the guy, but am a fan of the startups he’s started, and this post is a total bummer. We forget the reality of people behind the screen, and how online respect is in all too short supply these days with the armor of anonymity that the web insures. I’ve dealt with my share of flames, hateful posts, and even vitrolic comments that have made me lose sleep, so I feel for the guy, and will miss his witty and incisive entries on my Tumblr dashboard each day.
